Tires 'for life': these are the two brands that have the greatest durability

Tire durability is a crucial factor for drivers’ safety and economy. Recently, the Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) in Spain, equivalent to DECO in Portugal, conducted extensive research to identify tire brands that have the greatest resistance to wear.

The research involved 52,000 drivers from five European countries, collecting data on the brand and model of tires used, mileage driven and the reason for the last replacement.

Survey results

The results highlighted two brands in particular for their superior durability: Yokohama and Michelin. According to the data collected and shared by:

  • Yokohama emerged as the longest lasting brand, with its tires covering an average of 44,634 kilometers before needing replacement.
  • Michelin was close, with an average of 44,187 kilometers.

The top 10 most durable brands

In addition to Yokohama and Michelin, other brands have also demonstrated remarkable resistance to wear, completing the top 10 of the most durable brands:

  1. Yokohama: 44.634 km
  2. Michelin: 44.187 km
  3. Vredestein: 42.973 km
  4. Toyo: 42.406 km
  5. Continental: 41.943 km
  6. Uniroyal: 41.902 km
  7. Dunlop: 41.139 km
  8. Bridgestone: 40.693 km
  9. Goodyear: 40.271 km
  10. Hankook: 39.649 km

Driver behavior

The OCU study also revealed interesting driver habits regarding tire replacement. The majority of respondents, 71%, only change tires when they show very severe wear.

This behavior can compromise road safety, especially in adverse weather conditions. In contrast, only 18% of drivers choose to replace their tires preventatively, thus ensuring optimal vehicle performance in all circumstances.

OCU’s research offers insightful insight into tire durability, highlighting Yokohama and Michelin as the toughest options. However, regardless of the brand chosen, it is essential that drivers regularly monitor the condition of their tires and consider preventive replacement to ensure safety on the road.

After all, a well-maintained tire not only improves the car’s performance but also contributes to safer driving.
