South American: Grêmio visits Riestra to resume away victories

O Grêmio visits Deportivo Riestra this Tuesday (5), at 7pm (Brasília time), for the fourth round of the group stage of the 2026 South American Cup. The duel will be held at the Estadio El Nuevo Gasómetro, in Buenos Aires, in Argentina.

for Series A of the Brazilian Championship. The Argentine team also finished 0-0 in the national championship, against Lanús, on Saturday (2).

For the last commitment of the South American team, . Riestra beat Montevideo City Torque, from Uruguay, 2-1.

With the results of the last round, Grêmio and Deportivo Riestra share second place in group F, with four points each. The Gauchos have the upper hand in the tiebreaker criteria, as they won the “first” match 1-0 at the Arena, in Porto Alegre, in mid-April.

City Torque is the group leader with six points. The Palestinian occupies the last place with just two.

Instability outside the home

Luís Castro’s hasn’t won as a visitor since January, still with Gauchão. Tricolor’s main objective against Riestra is to break this recent taboo.

How Grêmio arrives

Leonel Pérez and Noriega are the favorites for the injured Nardoni and Arthur’s positions in midfield. Dodi could also appear, but he has Willian as a more offensive alternative — and that would move Gabriel Mec from the center to the left wing.

There is a possibility that young Tiaguinho and Zortéa will be selected in midfield.

Carlos Vinicius naturally replaces Braithwaite after serving a suspension.

The tendency is for Luís Castro not to repeat the tactical ‘design’ with three defenders, used in the match at Arena da Baixada, in Curitiba. Maintenance of the scheme, however, is not ruled out.

In any case, Viery, who is also returning from suspension, takes Balbuena’s place alongside Gustavo Martins.

Caio Paulista is an alternative to Pedro Gabriel’s place. Amuzu returned to training after his ankle injury and has a chance of being selected for the duel.
