The remote Tracy Arm Fjord south of Juneau, Alaska is considered a spectacular sight. Every day in high season, more than 20 excursion boats and cruise ships pass through the narrow fjord, some with thousands of passengers on board. It was a stroke of luck that a so-called megatsunami – the second highest ever recorded – occurred here in the very early morning hours of August 10, 2025 and that no one was injured. If the catastrophe had occurred a few hours later, there would have been numerous casualties.
