Tarcísio presents a project that expands paternity leave – 05/06/2026 – Panel

The governor of , (Republicans), forwarded a bill to the Legislative Assembly on an urgent basis that extends paternity leave for state employees from 5 to 20 days.

The proposal anticipates in the state the effects of one that gradually extended the deadline to 20 days until 2029.

Tarcísio’s project also changes the rules on maternity leave for civil servants. The benefit would begin to be valid when the mother or baby is discharged from hospital, whichever occurs last. The idea is to ensure that fathers and mothers do not lose part of their leave in cases of prolonged hospitalization of the newborn.

Finally, the project expands the adoption leave rules and guarantees 20 days of leave for the other adopting spouse or partner.

According to the governor, the project “offers dignity to families”. “It is progress in the right direction by updating rules that directly impact the lives of fathers and mothers with more acceptance, balance and family protection from the first days of their children’s lives”, he stated.
