EU Commission is considering suspending methane penalties in the event of an energy crisis

Brussels – The EU Commission is considering suspending penalties for methane emissions during energy crises, according to a newspaper report. In doing so, the Brussels authority is responding to pressure from the USA and the oil and natural gas industry to weaken the rules for greenhouse gas emissions, the wrote Financial Times on Wednesday. The Commission had originally planned to introduce new rules next year to monitor and report methane leaks from fossil fuel imports.
