The union reported that the pause can be avoided ‘if the state government and the metro management leave their intransigence aside and negotiate with the category’
The São Paulo subway reported that it may go on strike next Wednesday, May 13th, due to the reduction in the subway’s workforce, the lack of opening new competitions in 10 years, and the company’s refusal to “negotiate items such as equal pay”.
According to Metrôviários, a satisfaction survey released by Fantástico, from TV Globo, reported that 76.3% of people said that the metro service is “good or very good”, referring to the year 2025.
In 10 years, the union stated that the subway’s workforce has reduced by practically half and that today, there are “5,663 employees distributed in all areas of service, train operation, public safety, maintenance, administration”.
This reduction is due to the lack of open competitions in more than 10 years, in addition to this, the workers said they suffered a “serious attack on their health plan and the company refuses to negotiate items such as equal pay in the same functions and guarantee negotiations”.
Finally, they also stated that the strike can be avoided if the state government and the metro management leave “intransigence aside and negotiate with the category”.
The deliberation to decide on the strike will take place on May 12th and, if agreed, it will begin at midnight on May 13th.
