According to Motta, the choice of the capital of Paraíba to begin discussions outside Brasília was a gesture by the president of the special commission, deputy (PT-SP), and the rapporteur, deputy (Republicanos-BA), who decided to favor the State for opening the collegiate’s national agenda.

During the meeting, Hugo Motta demonstrated optimism regarding the progress of the proposal. The president of the Chamber stated that he sees a “very favorable” environment for approving the end of the 6 x 1 matchday. He also projected the possibility of a unanimous decision in the Lower House, regardless of alignments with the government or the opposition.

Motta argued that the reduction in working hours is a reflection of increased productivity and recent technological transformations. For the parliamentarian, these economic gains must be converted into quality of life for workers, allowing more time for health care and family life.

The president of the Chamber also stated that the debate will be intensified in May, with the expectation that the text will be voted on in the plenary later this month and will go to the Senate before the July recess.

Specific categories

The PEC rapporteur, Léo Prates, detailed how he intends to guide the final text of the proposal. According to the deputy, the idea is that the PEC deals with the general rule of working hours, while the specificities of categories, such as health professionals, are discussed separately in a bill.

The deputy highlighted the importance of listening to experts to find the best legal format. He cited as an example the 12 x 36 day, which, according to Alencar Santana, is vital for the maintenance of health services. “This way we find the best legal format for our country”stated the rapporteur.

Léo Prates is expected to meet with Hugo Motta next week to define the processing strategy in conjunction with proposals from the federal government.
