Tragedy at the race! The death of an experienced racer († 48) shook the motorcycle world

Experienced Czech rider Kamil Holán lost his life during qualifying for the North West 200 motor race in the Superbike class in the Northern Irish city of Coleraine. This was confirmed by the official website of the Hefty74 motorcycle school, where the 48-year-old driver worked as an instructor. The portal iDnes.cz drew attention to it. Organizers initially did not release his name.

“A person who breathed for motorcycle sport has passed away. Kamil was not only an incredible racer and a legend of Czech road racing. He was, above all, a wonderful friend, a heartthrob and a person with a huge character,” it is written in the statement. Holán won the legendary Gustav Havel 300-turn event seven times and also participated in the Tourist Trophy race on the Isle of Man.

“The family have given their consent for the event to go ahead but have asked that the driver’s name not be released at this time. Coleraine and District Motor Club, race organizers, offer their deepest condolences to the family and team.” the BBC Sport portal quoted from the earlier statement of the organizers. The Northern Ireland North Coast International Motorcycle Race has been held since 1929 and takes place on closed public roads. According to the BBC, Holán is the 20th victim in the 97-year history of the event.
