Despite attacks from both sides, an American government official told Fox News that the bombings do not mean the end of the truce.
The ceasefire in force between the US and Iran was seriously threatened this Thursday after an exchange of attacks between the two countries
The first information came from the Iranian state agency IRIB, which stated, citing an anonymous military source, that “enemy units” operating in the Strait of Hormuz area were the target of Iranian missile fire, following an attack by US armed forces on an Iranian oil tanker.
Later, Tasnim, the regime’s semi-official agency, clarified the situation and mentioned that Iran had attacked three American destroyers near the Strait of Hormuz and that they had moved to the Gulf of Oman.
Iran, through its high military command, also accused the US of attacking civilian areas of the country, in this case the island of Qeshm and the city of Bandar Abbas, “with the collaboration of countries in the region”.
The American response to the Iranian narrative was given by the US Central Command (CENTCOM), which stated that American forces carried out retaliatory attacks against Iran after Tehran attacked the three American destroyers near the Strait of Hormuz.
“US forces intercepted unprovoked Iranian attacks and responded with self-defense strikes as US Navy missile-launching destroyers crossed the Strait of Hormuz toward the Gulf of Oman,” the publication made on X read.
CENTCOM says the ships involved are the USS Truxtun, USS Rafael Peralta and USS Mason.
“US Central Command neutralized imminent threats and attacked Iranian military installations responsible for attacks against US forces, including missile and drone launch bases; command and control posts; and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance centers. CENTCOM does not intend to escalate the conflict, but remains positioned and ready to protect US forces”, concludes CENTCOM.

Well into the night, US President Donald Trump said that the ceasefire remains in force despite the hostilities.
