Between the 22nd and 24th of May, the town of Armação de Pêra hosts another edition of the Caldeirada e do Mar Festival, an initiative that celebrates gastronomy, the sea, tradition and sustainability.
Over the course of three days, more than a dozen participating restaurants will present special menus inspired by the flavors of the sea and local gastronomic tradition, providing different experiences for visitors.
Participating in this edition are the restaurants Marisqueira Hera, Churrasqueira Balbino, O Silvense, Praia com Tempero, Estrela do Mar, O Walter, O Pelintra, Churrasqueira O Casarão, Olivalmar, Papa Restaurante, Ondas do Mar, Serol and Restaurante Davi.
Organized by Silves City Hall, the festival aims to value local products linked to the sea, promoting the use of fish and shellfish from Armação de Pêra, with emphasis on species linked to the Recife do Algarve Marine Natural Park – Pedra do Valado.
Festival brings together gastronomy, sustainability and Sea Conference
The public presentation of the event takes place on the morning of May 22, at the Armação de Pêra Municipal Market.
Included in the program is also the 3rd edition of the Sea Conference, scheduled for the 22nd and 23rd of May.
The first day will be dedicated to students from municipal schools in Silves, through activities aimed at promoting ocean literacy and environmental awareness.
On the 23rd, experts, representatives from academia, public administration and non-governmental organizations will debate the future special programming of the Recife do Algarve Marine Natural Park – Pedra do Valado, as well as the environmental and socioeconomic importance of that protected area.
Session will address co-management models implemented in the Recife Park in the Algarve
The session will also address the co-management models implemented in this marine protected zone, considered the first created in mainland Portugal in the 21st century.
According to the municipality, all information regarding the menus, participating restaurants, competition regulations and the Sea Conference schedule will be available.
The city hall also invites residents and visitors to “celebrate the flavors of the sea, with emphasis on our Recife do Algarve Marine Natural Park – Pedra do Valado, in Armação de Pêra”.
