The Christian Democracy (DC) pre-candidate, Aldo Rebelo, raised the tone against the former governor of Minas Gerais Romeu Zema (Novo) by stating that proposals for the sale of Brazilian state-owned companies ignore the advance of foreign groups in strategic sectors of the economy.
In a video published this Friday (8) on social media, Rebelo called Zema “uninformed” and “unqualified” when commenting on the Novo pre-candidate’s defense of the privatization of companies such as Petrobras and Banco do Brasil.
According to the former minister, the logic presented by Zema disregards the fact that large international groups, especially Chinese companies, currently have the financial capacity to take control of assets considered strategic for the country.

“Who are you going to sell Banco do Brasil to? Because, if you put it up for sale, you won’t choose the buyer,” said Rebelo. “We would not privatize Petrobras. We would transform a Brazilian state asset into a Chinese state asset,” he added.
In recent days, Zema once again publicly defended the sale of federal public companies. In recent interviews and meetings with businesspeople in São Paulo, the former governor stated that he intends to use privatization resources to reduce public debt and alleviate pressure on interest rates.
