New SHMÚ forecast, it will finally come: TWO precipitation waves will pass through Slovakia!

Precipitation is not expected in most of Slovakia on Saturday and Sunday, and if it does occur, it will only be weak. However, the situation will change at the beginning of next week. On Sunday, a separate depression will begin to deepen north of the Alps, which will advance through the Czech Republic and Poland and over the Baltics during Monday. The frontal system associated with it will gradually begin to influence the weather in our country as well. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) informs about this on the social network.

  • During the weekend, most of the territory of Slovakia will remain mostly without significant precipitation.
  • At the beginning of the week, a separate depression will deepen north of the Alps.

According to meteorologists, at least two rain waves could pass through our area. The first on Monday afternoon, the second on Tuesday night. The second one will be associated with a cold front, behind which it will gradually flow towards us from the northwest on Tuesday cold air and the wind will also increase significantly. Ten to 30, occasionally up to around 50 millimeters of precipitation should fall here.

On Friday and Thursday, precipitation occurred mainly in the eastern half of the territory, where mostly five to 15 millimeters fell. In areas where more intense convection appeared (showers, storms), it was even more locally. More than 40 millimeters fell in Svidník and Nižní Komárnik in the northeast of the territory. According to SHMÚ, it was worst in the west of the country, where either no precipitation occurred at all or it was only weak.
