- The Ministry of National Education announced the summer holidays in 2026: students will finish the school year on June 26.
- The holidays will start on June 27, a day earlier than in 2025, which will please many students.
- The summer break will last 66 days and the school year will start on September 1; There is more and more talk about changing the holiday date.
The Ministry of National Education has set the holiday date for 2026
in Poland it is not constant and depends every year on the arrangement of days in the calendar. According to the regulations, teaching classes end on the first Friday after June 20. In practice, this means that students can start their holidays between June 21 and 27.
In the 2025/2026 school year, the last day of school will be Friday, June 26, 2026. The holidays will officially start a day later – on Saturday, June 27. This is one day earlier than in 2025, when students graduated only on June 27. Students will be happy. The holidays will start sooner. Although the difference may seem small, it is of great importance to many families. An additional day off may affect trip prices, summer camp dates or the availability of places in popular resorts. Parents are already analyzing the school schedule and planning holidays well in advance.
Interestingly, in 2027 the holidays will start even earlier – on June 25. However, such a favorable calendar arrangement is rare.
This is how long the 2026 holidays will really last
The date of September 1 is crucial. In 2026, the beginning of the school year falls on Tuesday, so the holidays will not be automatically extended by additional weekend days. Students will return to school on September 1 and will immediately begin an almost full week of classes.
As a result, the 2026 holidays will last 66 days. This is one of the shorter possible variants of the summer break. For comparison, the longest vacation can be up to 72 days if the school year ends exceptionally early.
There is more and more talk about changing the holiday date
– from mid-June to mid-August. Supporters of this solution argue that schools are not prepared for heat waves, and learning in overheated rooms is becoming more and more difficult.
However, the idea is controversial. Opponents point out that the problem is not the date of the holidays itself, but the lack of air conditioning and proper preparation of schools for high temperatures. The change could also cause considerable confusion in the tourism industry, which for years has been operating on the rhythm of holidays in July and August. However, the Ministry of National Education emphasizes that it is not currently working on changing the date of the summer break.
