A tourist was fined 500 euros after diving into the Trevi Fountain, one of Rome’s most emblematic monuments.
Images of the moment show the man swimming and walking inside the historic fountain in front of the surprised gaze of dozens of tourists who were there.
According to Italian authorities, the man was allegedly under the influence of alcohol when he decided to enter the fountain, ending up being quickly intercepted by security forces.
In addition to the R$500 fine, the tourist may also be prevented from returning to the monument area for a certain period.
The Trevi Fountain is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Italy and entering the water is prohibited, with fines for those who disregard the monument’s preservation rules.
