Illegal pulls take two radio stations off FM

Pulls steal the electricity that supplies the antenna in the Penajoia neighborhood, in Almada. Radios Radar and Oxigénio only broadcast online.

The radios Radar e Oxygen they are no broadcast on FM since Sunday, due to illegal energy pullswith the director admitting that this situation, which is not new, could put the survival of broadcasters at risk.

In a written response to Lusa, Ricardo Guerra explained that E-Redes has been “on the ground since yesterday [segunda-feira] and, without any type of guarantee”, predicts that “there will be power again in the emitting center at around 8:00 pm”, more than 48 hours later.

At issue are illegal pulls, which “steal the electricity that supplies that antenna in the neighborhood of Penajoia, in the town of Almada. A problem that has been going on for two years and that causes overloads and cuts in supply, frequently affecting the signal of both radio stations”, according to a note, published on the stations’ websites.

The radio director, in turn, indicated that the broadcast has continued online, something “complicated in terms of advertisers and partners, but with everyone’s understanding”.

He also complained of “a total lack of response from Almada City Council”, despite the efforts, as well as those of the IHRU – Institute of Housing and Urban Rehabilitation, from whom they lease the land.

When asked whether this situation calls into question the survival radio stations, Ricardo Guerra said that the “medium term yes”because “without FM there is no investment, and without it the projects are no longer viable”. He further indicated that 11 people work on broadcasters.
