Australia enters a defense mission in the Strait of Hormuz. He will deploy the Wedgetail aircraft alongside Britain and France

Australia will strengthen the international defense mission in the Strait of Hormuz and send a high-end Wedgetail E 7A aircraft. The goal is the safe return of commercial shipping.

Australia will join a defense mission led by France and Britain to ensure the resumption of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, Defense Minister Richard Marles said on Wednesday. TASR informs about it according to the report of the AFP agency.

“Australia stands ready to support an independent and strictly defensive multinational military mission led by the United Kingdom and France,” the minister said in a statement.

Planned deployment of Wedgetail

Marles made the announcement after a virtual summit with defense ministers from more than 40 countries involved in the mission.

Australia will provide the mission with an E-7A Wedgetail reconnaissance aircraft, which is already operating in the region to protect the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from Iranian drone attacks, Marles said.
