Members of the (Workers’ Party) praised the speech of the new president of the (Superior Electoral Court), during the inauguration ceremony this Tuesday (12) and, in a way, breathed a sigh of relief in relation to his performance ahead of this year’s elections.
In his speech, Nunes Marques demanded clean and transparent elections.
“The Brazilian electronic voting system constitutes an institutional heritage of our democracy. Regarding the reception, counting and dissemination of votes, our system is the most advanced in the world”, he said
For PT members, it is a good sign of what his performance should be like at the head of the electoral court. Party members say his choice to defend democracy suggests he will work to combat disinformation.
More than that: the party hopes that Nunes Marques’ presidency of the TSE will be uneventful in an election that promises to be fierce.
Amidst the challenge of ex-president Jair Bolsonaro’s nomination to the (Supreme Federal Court), a PT leader told the Panel, with reservation, that it is necessary to remember that, previously, Nunes Marques was nominated by the president (PT).
In 2008, it was Lula who appointed him as an electoral judge at the Regional Electoral Court of Piauí (TRE-PI). In 2010, Lula signed his reappointment to the position.
