The governor of Alagoas, Paulo Dantas (), participated in a lottery for transfers during a commemoration event in Rio Largo, a city in the Metropolitan Region of Maceió.
At the event, which took place last Sunday (10), Dantas said that the transfers would be a gift from him and the senator (MDB), pre-candidate for re-election in the October election. 50 transfers were drawn via Pix worth R$200 each, for a total of R$10,000.
“You will also receive a gift from Senator Renan and Governor Paulo Dantas. If you like Pix, raise your hand”, said the governor to the audience present.
The Alagoas Communication Secretariat said that the action was “informal and private in nature” and that payments were made with personal resources.
“There was no use of public resources, employees or any structure linked to the State Treasury. Governor Paulo Dantas exercised an individual right, using his own resources, within the limits established by current legislation”, he informed.
The government also highlighted that the initiative had no connection with a vote request, electoral activity or use of public machinery.
The Mother’s Day celebration event was organized by the city of Rio Largo and distributed more than 170 prizes, including household appliances and a motorcycle. The event was attended by the mayor of Rio Largo, Pedro Carlos (), an ally of Dantas and Calheiros.
Governor Paulo Dantas will not contest the October elections and will support the candidacy of Renan Filho (MDB), his predecessor in the position who commanded the state between 2015 and 2022.
The tendency is for him to face the former mayor of Maceió João Henrique Caldas (), known as JHC. He resigned from his position in April but has not yet decided which position he will run for in the October elections.
