Potenza – After a bizarre finale, Igor Arrieta won the fifth stage of the Giro d’Italia. The young Spaniard won the sprint in Potenza on Wednesday against his fellow escapee Alfonso Eulalio from Portugal. Two kilometers from the finish, Arrieta braked on the wet road and took a wrong turn. With the last of his strength he fought his way back to Eulalio and overtook his opponent 200 meters from the finish. Felix Gall was stage 37.
