The work narrates the former minister’s trajectory from the backlands of Paraíba to the management of Covid-19; Efraim Filho and Damares Alves participated in the event
The former Minister of Health (PL-PB) launched, this Wednesday (May 13, 2026), the autobiography “I come from the hinterland: the countryman who was born on the beach”. The ceremony was held at the Federal Senate Library. Queiroga is a pre-candidate for the Senate for the party in Paraíba.
The work narrates the doctor’s trajectory from his family origins in the backlands of Paraíba to his work at the head of the Ministry of Health during the Covid-19 pandemic. The senator was present (PL-PB), pre-candidate for the government of Paraíba, and senator (Republicanos-DF), also former minister of the government of PL).
Queiroga took charge of the Ministry of Health in March 2021 during one of the biggest peaks of Covid-19. In the book, the former minister describes the challenges of managing the department at that critical moment.
To the Poder360the former minister stated: “Bolsonaro brought me to the ministry at that very difficult time because he knows the strength and resilience of the people of the Northeast, with enough courage to face that challenge and help Brazil in that difficult time.”
In the book, Queiroga argues that vaccination was the structuring axis of his management. The author claims to have prioritized what he calls “method” in contrast to what he considers media spectacle.
Queiroga counters in the book what he classifies as “amplified hysteria” by opponents and part of the press during the pandemic. According to him, his management offered “method” against the “narratives” policies that circulated during the period.
The work reaffirms Queiroga’s loyalty to (PL). The former minister is grateful for the trust placed in him to lead the Ministry of Health. Queiroga describes the former president as a close friend gained during the period in which he was in charge of the department.
The launch of the book takes place at a time when Queiroga is positioning himself as a pre-candidate for the Senate for Paraíba. The former minister seeks to consolidate the foundations of what he calls “Bolsonarism with roots” not Northeast.
The former minister’s criticisms are directed at management models that he associates with the left and with the president’s current government (PT). He mentions a moral rupture between politicians who, according to his view, prioritize rhetoric to the detriment of practical solutions to the problems of the Brazilian Northeast.
The book uses AI (Artificial Intelligence) in its production, with editing for the cover and others inserted internally in the work. One of these shows Queiroga with vaccines and behind a cart with people wearing a red shirt and a white star, a symbol linked to the .
Regarding his candidacy for the Senate, Queiroga told this digital newspaper that he follows the “President Bolsonaro’s agenda” and try to see if “communicate with the people of the Northeast, in the typical Northeastern way, to increase the strength of our political grouping, so that Bolsonarism can take root in Paraíba” and other states in the region.
