Presidents Trump and Xi agree that Hormuz must remain open: The agreement also came on another topic

  • Donald Trump and Xi Jinping agreed that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open.
  • Both countries agree that Iran must never possess a nuclear weapon.
  • The presidents had a two-hour meeting and are planning further joint meetings.

US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed during Thursday’s meeting in Beijing that the Strait of Hormuz must be opened to international shipping and that Iran can never possess a nuclear weapon. After the meeting of the leaders, the White House informed about it, writes TASR based on AFP and YNA agencies. “Both sides agreed that the Strait of Hormuz must be opened to ensure the free flow of energy raw materials,” informed the White House.

Since the outbreak of war with the United States and Israel on February 28, Iran has blocked shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which usually passes through a fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas supplies. Multiple ships have been attacked in or near this key shipping route, while Iran and the United States continue to impose blockades on each other.

Trump and Xi held a joint meeting on Thursday that lasted two hours. In the evening, Beijing time, they will meet again at the state dinner, and on Friday they will discuss over tea and during lunch.
