Chinese leader Xi Jinping began his speech at the state banquet this Thursday (14) with an optimistic tone.
“The people of China are both great people. Achieving the Great Rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation and Making America Great Again can go hand in hand,” he said, referencing a well-known Communist Party slogan and one of Trump’s main catchphrases, “Make America Great Again.”
“We can help each other succeed and promote the well-being of the entire world,” he told the audience.
The American president arrived in the Chinese capital on Wednesday (13) for a three-day visit. This is his first trip to China since 2017.
Earlier, Trump and Xi met for about two hours, in a conversation rated “good” by one.
The leaders discussed economic cooperation, with details on expected trade deals yet to be released. Fentanyl was also a topic of conversation, the official said.
The summit also aims to close agreements on agricultural products and aircraft, in addition to maintaining a fragile truce in the trade war between the world’s two largest economies.
The trip was originally planned for the end of March, but was postponed due to the US and Israeli war against Iran.
