Exports from Brazil to the USA fall 16.7% in 4 months

Bilateral deficit grew 35% and exported value is the lowest since 2023; despite the drop in relation to the USA, Brazilian sales to the world grew 9.2%

A (Amcham) released on Wednesday (May 13, 2026) data showing a decline in bilateral trade between Brazil and the United States in the first four months of 2026. Brazil sold US$ 10.9 billion in products to the North American market from January to April, a drop of 16.7% compared to the same period in 2025.

Despite the drop in exports from Brazil to the USA, theBrazilian sales to the world grew 9.2% in the year to date. Read (PDF – 642 kB).

The United States recorded one of the worst performances among the main destinations for Brazilian exports in 2026. Brazil was ahead only of Argentina, which showed a drop of 18.4%. The US share of total Brazilian exports to the world was 9.4% from January to April.

OIL AND COFFEE DROP

The decline in Brazilian sales in April was driven by a decrease in shipments of crude oil and unroasted coffee. Crude oil exports fell by 45.6%, while unroasted coffee fell by 46.1%. Brazilian exports to the United States fell 11.5% in April alone, reaching US$3.1 billion.

Brazilian purchases of American goods also decreased by 13% in the four months. The Brazilian deficit in the bilateral trade balance reached US$ 1.3 billion in the period. According to Amcham, the value exported to the American market in the four months is the lowest since 2023.

The Brazilian deficit in the trade balance with the United States grew 35% in a period of 4 months. Exports fell at a faster pace than imports from January to April.

Products without surcharges led the losses in April, with a drop of 25.2%. Products subject to the 10% surcharge fell 7.6% in the month. In the year to date, these same products had the worst performance among the groups analyzed, with a decline of 23.7%.

Items impacted by tariffs imposed on steel, aluminum, automobiles and auto parts grew by 22.5% in April. Steel and aluminum shipments rose 44.3% and drove the positive result.

Brazilian purchases of American products fell 18.1% in April. In the four-month period, the decline was 13%. This is the 5th consecutive month of decline in imports from the United States.

The reduction was influenced by the drop in purchases of engines and machines, which fell 76.5%. Aircraft and parts fell by 58.8%. Fuel oils decreased by 18.9%.
