Russia says Putin will discuss Trump and Xi meeting when he goes to China

Russian President Vladimir Putin hopes to discuss American President Donald Trump’s visit to China directly with Chinese leader Xi Jinping during his next visit to Beijing, the Russian government said on Friday (15).

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists that Putin’s upcoming visit to China – the date of which has not yet been announced – would be “a good opportunity to exchange views on the contacts that took place between the Chinese and Americans.”

“When () engage in direct dialogue at the highest level… such contacts, naturally, are the subject of special attention and analysis for all countries, including ours,” Peskov declared.

In a slight jab at Americans, when referring to the US and China as , Peskov stated: “You know that, in terms of purchasing power parity, China is the first economy, and the United States is the second, in absolute terms.”

China is by far Russia’s most important ally. Chinese-made electronic components are vital to the Russian defense industry.

And like , Beijing represents an important source of revenue for the Kremlin at a time when the Russian economy is under pressure due to the war in Ukraine.
