Serbia is preparing for the world elite. Expo 2027 is expecting millions of visitors and thousands of volunteers

Today, the Serbian metropolis officially entered the final phase of preparations for the largest global event in the country’s history. In exactly 365 days, the specialized world exhibition Expo 2027 will open its doors.

The event with the central theme “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All” (Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All) will last 93 days. With it, Serbia wants to definitively establish itself on the map of modern technological and cultural centers of Europe. During the exhibition’s three-month duration, more than 8,000 accompanying programs are planned, which will connect innovation, culture and international business.

An opportunity for volunteers from all over the world

Along with the annual countdown, the organizers officially launched recruitment for the largest volunteer program in the Western Balkans region. Around 20,000 volunteers are expected to pass through the gates of the fairgrounds.

  • Who can apply: All adults regardless of country of origin.
  • Positions: There are 48 different job profiles available.
  • Term: Registration is possible from May 16 via the official Expo 2027 web platform.

Investments in infrastructure with lasting benefits

The construction of the complex in the Surčin district is progressing according to the established schedule. A key aspect of the project is its subsequent use, as the organizers declare 100 percent sustainability.

After the event, the area will not turn into a “ghost town”. The newly built infrastructure will serve as:

  • Modern exhibition center and multifunctional center (Beogradski sajam).
  • Centers for innovation, creativity and education, including schools and kindergartens.
  • Residential and hotel complexes along with new public spaces and parks.

Belgrade to the rhythm of world stars

The atmosphere of the upcoming Expo is already foreshadowed by the rich cultural life in the city these days. Belgrade hosts world names such as Lenny Kravitz, Eros Ramazzotti and Deep Purple, while the audience can also look forward to performances by the world-famous Cirque du Soleil.

Foreign participants should receive the keys to their pavilions no later than December 1, 2026. Until then, Serbia also plans to raise its visibility by hosting prestigious technology fairs, such as the global startup event GITEX, thus confirming its ambition to become the innovation leader of Southeast Europe.
