Former Minister of the Civil House has been admitted to the Sírio-Libanês hospital, in São Paulo, since the weekend; will begin treatment in the next few days
The former Minister of the Civil House, 80 years old, was diagnosed with lymphoma, as announced this Friday (May 15, 2026) by the Sírio-Libanês hospital, in São Paulo.
Dirceu has been hospitalized since Saturday (May 10) for general exams. According to the medical team, the former minister “is in good clinical condition” and will remain hospitalized to begin specific treatment against the disease.
The bulletin informs that Dirceu is under the care of doctors Raul Cutait, Roberto Kalil and Celso Arrais. The statement was signed by the hospital’s director of Clinical Governance, Luiz Francisco Cardoso.
PRE-APPLICATION
In March this year, during the event celebrating his 80th birthday, Dirceu told Poder360 which is for São Paulo in the 2026 elections. According to the PT member, the decision responds to an invitation from the president (PT).
“I am a pre-candidate, at the request and invitation of President Lula. I returned to the National Directory and am already carrying out a pre-campaign within the law and TSE resolutions”he declared at the time. The former minister stated that he intends to contribute to political coordination in Congress and the federal government’s agenda.

It is a type of cancer that develops in the lymphatic system, a network responsible for defending the body and fighting infections. The disease mainly affects lymphocytes, defense cells present in lymph nodes, bone marrow, spleen and other parts of the body.
There are different types of lymphoma, divided mainly into Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Treatment varies depending on the stage and characteristics of the disease and may include chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy or bone marrow transplant.
