Anti-crime plan aims to go upstairs, says coordinator – 05/16/2026 – Panel

Coordinator of Lula’s government program for public security in the 2022 election, sociologist Benedito Mariano says that the

“The program aims to put the Anti-Faction Law approved in the National Congress and sanctioned by President Lula off the ground. It is an investment of R$1 billion”, he states.

The Brazil Against Organized Crime plan, which should be one of the most important of the election, and which tends to be an asset of the right.

According to Mariano, one of the program’s strategic axes is to “act on the top floor of organized crime”, targeting financial flows and money laundering. “It’s the top floor that fuels organized crime violence in the outskirts,” he says.

He also highlights the pillars of the plan to increase the clarification of homicides, expanding investigative actions, activities in the illegal weapons market and the transformation of 138 state prisons into maximum security units, with resources and technology. “To gradually curb the activities of organized crime in prisons”, he declares.

The program is also integrated with the Federal Police, Federal Highway Police, Federal Revenue, Coaf and state police, with support from state and federal Public Ministries.

There are also plans to create two integrated regional offices for the program, one in São Paulo and the other in Rio de Janeiro.
