Lewandowski confirms departure from Barcelona after four seasons

In an official statement, Barcelona praised not only the performance on the field, but also the player’s influence behind the scenes

Robert Lewandowski will end his spell at Barcelona at the end of the season. This Saturday, the 37-year-old Polish striker published a farewell message on social media and confirmed that he will leave the Spanish club after four years.

The farewell should have a special chapter this Sunday, when Barcelona face Betis, at Camp Nou, in the last round of La Liga. The expectation is for a tribute to the number 9 in front of the fans.

Coach Hansi Flick commented on the player’s departure and highlighted the importance of the striker within the squad. According to the coach, the club respects the decision and is already evaluating alternatives for replacement.

“He is an example for everyone. He always did his best and it was a privilege to work with him. To see the effort he puts in every day. He was always there in the most difficult moments”, said Flick.

Hired in July 2022, Lewandowski arrived at Barcelona after a successful career at Bayern Munich and quickly assumed a leading role in a period of reconstruction for the Catalan club. During his time there, he played 191 official matches, scored 119 goals and distributed 22 assists.

The most notable individual season took place in 2024/25, when he found the net 42 times in 52 games, numbers that reinforced his status as the team’s main offensive reference.

In an official note, Barcelona praised not only the performance on the fieldbut also the player’s influence behind the scenes.

“In addition to his goals, Lewandowski also stood out for his leadership on and off the field. His professionalism, high standards and commitment made him a role model for the younger players in the dressing room. With a successful career in Europe, the Polish striker brought experience and personality to a team undergoing a complete overhaul,” the club wrote.

In the message published on social media, Lewandowski thanked Barcelona. “After four years full of challenges and a lot of work, the time has come to move on. I leave with the feeling that the mission has been accomplished. Four seasons, three championships. I will never forget the affection I received from the fans since my first days”, wrote the striker.

“Catalonia is my place in the world. Thank you to everyone I met over these four wonderful years. A special thank you to President Laporta for giving me the opportunity to live the most incredible chapter of my career. Barça is back where it belongs”, he added.
