Brazil is one of the guests in the current cycle of the G7, a bloc formed by the USA, Japan, France, and Italy. It is not common for a country that is not a member of the group to make this type of speech. The initiative is seen as an attempt to give Brazil prestige in the face of attacks.

When he invited Durigan, French Economy Minister Roland Lescure said that Brazil’s participation could help build bridges between the G7 and emerging economies.

France wants to honor Brazil in the G7 cycle as a sign of support for multilateralism and the need for dialogue channels between emerging economies and Western powers.

The signaling is made at a time when the agenda is undergoing a decline under the presidency of Donald Trump.
