On Sunday, hundreds of thousands in Bulgaria woke up to the song’s dance beat Side by pop star Dara. Many rubbed their eyes: the unthinkable had happened. For the first time, the poorest EU country won the Eurovision Song Contest. The German-Bulgarian singer Lucy Diakovska spoke of a “culture shock” that will not only change Dara’s career and the music scene in the country – but also Europe’s view of Bulgaria.
