The International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague officially denied Sunday’s information by the Israeli daily Ha’arec, according to which new arrest warrants were to be issued for five leading Israeli officials.
The International Criminal Court (ICC) denied reports on Sunday in the Israeli daily Ha’arec that it had issued new arrest warrants against five Israeli politicians and army officials for crimes against Palestinians. TASR informs about it according to a Reuters report.
ICC: The reports are not true
The ICC’s chief prosecutor has reportedly requested the issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli Finance Minister Becalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, a diplomatic source told Ha’arec. According to the source, the request also concerned the Minister of Settlements and National Missions, Orit Strooková, and two representatives of the Israeli Armed Forces.
ICC spokeswoman Oriane Maillet told reporters that the newspaper’s reports were not true and that the court “denies the issuance of new arrest warrants in relation to the situation in the State of Palestine.”
The International Criminal Court in The Hague issued arrest warrants in May 2024 on suspicion of war crimes for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant, the leader of the armed wing of Hamas Muhammad Daif, former political leader of Hamas Ismail Haniya and his successor Yahya Sinwar. The ICC closed the criminal proceedings against Haníj, Sinwár and Dajf after their deaths.
