Vienna – In Austria, most children still go to half-day school. This school year, 33.7 percent of compulsory schools (especially elementary and middle schools) and AHS lower grades attended a location with an all-day program. Only 8.1 percent were enrolled in a “real” all-day school in which lessons alternate with learning and leisure time, according to Education Minister Christoph Wiederkehr’s (Neos) response to a parliamentary question from the Greens.
