Earthquake in China leaves 2 dead and forces 7,000 people to evacuate

One earthquake of magnitude 5.2 in the southwestern region of China, in Guangxi, in the early hours of Monday (18), killed two people and forced the evacuation of more than 7,000 people in the city of Liuzhou. Search and rescue operations continue and authorities warn of possible transport disruptions.

They were confirmed, and four people were taken to hospital, although none of them had life-threatening injuries, CCTV and state news agency Xinhua reported.

The Liuzhou Emergency Management Department confirmed in a statement that 13 buildings collapsed after the earthquake in the early hours of Monday.

Railway authorities also flagged transport disruptions during inspection of the railway line.

Communication and power lines, water and gas supplies and traffic in the affected area were operating normally, state media reported.
