The secretary of the Iranian Discernment Council and former commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), Mohsen Rezaei, stated this Sunday (17) that Tehran “has not closed the doors” to friendship with the United Arab Emirates, but that the country must know that “Iran’s patience has limits”.
Quoted by Iranian news agency ISNARezaei criticized bilateral relations between the UAE and Israel. “We are aware that there are relations and exchanges between the United Arab Emirates and Israel; the Emirates must not get involved in Israel’s plots and schemes,” warned the secretary.
The United Arab Emirates has been the target of some of Tehran’s strongest attacks during the Middle East war, which has stretched into its third month, and recent reports suggest the country may have carried out retaliatory strikes of its own.
This Sunday, a nuclear plant in the Emirates was attacked and there was a fire, with no reports of deaths or injuries. Although the country did not directly accuse Iran, the Emirati president’s diplomatic adviser, Anwar Gargash, hinted that Tehran was responsible for the offensive.
According to Gargash, the attack, “whether carried out by the main agent or one of his intermediaries, represents a dangerous escalation and a dark scene that violates all international laws and norms, in a criminal disregard for the lives of civilians in and around the UAE.”
