Carlo Ancelotti announces this Monday (18) the long-awaited squad list for the Brazilian team for this year’s World Cup, hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The names will be revealed from 5pm (Brasília time), at an event organized by the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) at the Museum of Tomorrow, in Rio de Janeiro. According to the entity, more than 700 media professionals from Brazil and the world will be present at the event.
Ancelotti took over the green and yellow team in the final stretch of the cycle that began shortly after the World Cup held in Qatar, in 2022, and had a year to form his squad.
Given the time and the technical crisis experienced by the team, he was forced to carry out a series of experiments and, although he managed to form a base in the short period, he still left room for last-minute surprises.
The main doubt revolves around Neymar’s name. The number 10 has not played any matches with the national team’s shirt since the Italian’s arrival, sometimes absent because of injuries and sometimes due to his physical condition, a reason for concern for the national team’s technical committee.
Whenever asked about the player — and this happened in practically every interview the coach gave as Brazil commander —, Ancelotti made a point of making it clear that Neymar’s talent is indisputable, but he only calls up players who are in 100% of their physical condition. Hence the doubt about whether or not to use the Santos player at the World Cup.
The doubt took on the air of a soap opera and, whatever the coach’s decision, it will be the main topic of this Monday’s event.
Brazil debuts in the World Cup on June 13th, against Morocco. Then, they face Haiti, on the 19th, and end their participation in the first phase against Scotland, on the 24th.
The greatest champion in the history of the tournament, with five trophies, the Brazilian team is trying to end a 24-year drought since its last achievement, achieved in the 2002 World Cup, hosted in Korea and Japan.
