The former councilor Carlos Bolsonaro (PL-SC) reported on Sunday (17) that, in his last visit to the former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) under house arrest, the father has defined that he will support the names of federal deputies Alfredo Gaspar (PL) e Arthur Lira (PP) as candidates for the Federal Senate for Alagoas. They will compete as two open positions for the state in this year’s elections.
“In Alagoas, President Jair Bolsonaro, the entire Bolsonaro family and the entire right-wing and center-right grouping have already defined their names for the Senate: Arthur Lira and Alfredo Gaspar de Mendonça. They are names prepared, experienced and committed to the values we defend for Brazil”, said Carlos Bolsonaro to journalists during the “Acorda Brasil” event, in Maceió.
Former President of the Chamber Arthur Lira already launched his pre-candidacy for the Federal Senate in March this year, at an event with political leaders in Maceió. There is a movement for him to join the Liberal Party (PL), by Jair Bolsonaro, but currently he is defined as pre-candidate for the Progressives Party (PP).
The federal deputy Alfredo Gaspar launched his pre-candidacy via social media in April this yearby the acronym of Bolsonaro. He would joined the PL in Marchleaving União Brasil. Upon joining the party, he assumed the state presidency of the party, replacing the former mayor of Maceió, JHC.
In Alagoas, two Senate seats will be up for grabs in October. You mandates of senators Renan Calheiros (MDB) and Fernando Farias (MDB) end in January 2027.
