The woman from the vicinity of the Czech town of Třebíč only had eyes left from crying. She believed that she was maintaining a romantic relationship with the famous Slovak singer Paľ Haber (64) on social networks, but the truth was completely different and she lost more than 1,800 euros. The fraudster gradually lured money from her under the pretext of a personal meeting and a gift in the form of a luxury electric car. The police are already dealing with the case, informs .
It all started in the summer of 2024. The trusting woman started texting with the unknown perpetrator using the Messenger application, who went by the name of a popular musician. Their communication intensified and their friendship gradually grew into a pretend love affair. “And this despite the fact that they have never met in person,” pointed out Czech police spokeswoman Dana Čírtková.
The pair later started writing to each other through other encrypted applications. The fraudster began to convince the woman of the necessity of a meeting, for which he asked her for money for travel and accommodation. A woman in love and cheated on him subsequently she sent various amounts to several bank accounts.
The bizarre scam culminated in May, when the perpetrator told his victim that he had bought her a present. “In the Zangi ju app contacted a profile called Tesla Delivery, stating that they received an order from the Slovak singer to purchase a Tesla vehicle,” said the spokeswoman. The woman’s task was to choose a specific model. But there was a catch. The condition was the purchase of the so-called Tesla Coin charging cards worth 600 euros, while the woman had to pay 400 euros in advance and the remaining 200 euros upon handing over the vehicle.
Only after sending more money did the woman change her mind and try to cancel the payments. Subsequently she called her bank, where she learned the harsh truth – she had become the victim of an elaborate fraud. The total damage caused to her by the impostor amounted to 1,800 euros (almost 44,000 Czech crowns).
The case, which resonated in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, did not escape the attention of Paľ Haber. The music legend reacted on the social network. “When a few people pointed this out to me, I first smiled at how naive people can be. And then I felt sorry for the lady. I realized again what a strange time we live in.” wrote.
“Naivety and ignorance suit a huge number of speculators. They enjoy the fact that they got a “weapon” for free and happily massage people with their opinions and truths. And very many companions of our tribe conveniently submit – instead of returning to the essence and what is given to us all (also for free) at birth. Ability to use reason and have own opinion. It’s time to start again!” he referred Haber to a photo of the news that reported on the woman’s case. You can find it in the gallery.
