The former president of the Government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero has been charged with money laundering in an investigation into the alleged money laundering of the 53 million euro public bailout that the Government made after the pandemic. Judge José Luis Calama is investigating the whereabouts of that money, and the Economic and Fiscal Crime Unit of the National Police is searching the office of the former president and three businesses. It is the first time in democracy that a former president of the Government is investigated in a corruption case. The PP spokesperson, Miguel Tellado, has assured that the news is “extremely serious” as it concerns “Sanchez’s main advisor”: “The Government has to give explanations now. The racket is falling apart and the bosses of the plot are beginning to fall,” he added.
