The party newspaper defended the attacker and called the press “trespassing against the country”; publication received criticism on social media
The DCO (Diário da Causa Operária), a newspaper linked to the Partido da Causa Operária, published in defense of 2026 and criticized those who stood against the player, such as commentator Walter Casagrande. The Santos striker was called up by coach Carlo Ancelotti on Monday (May 18, 2026), after 31 months without playing for the Brazilian national team.
The publication said that the “anti-Selection press spent months rehearsing Neymar’s funeral” and that the call-up of shirt 10 would have been “terrible news for the enemies of Brazilian football”. The DCO called Neymar “greatest Brazilian player of the 21st century” and declared that he represents what is still to come “genius, popular and unpredictable” in Brazilian football. The text was published by PCO on Instagram.
The text ends with direct criticism of former player Casagrande and the press: “Suck it, Casagrande. Suck it, press against the country”.
The commentator has been critical of Neymar’s return to the national team. On May 14, he stated in his column that the attacker “He became a football player again”but questioned whether this was enough to compete in a World Cup. “Doesn’t dribble, doesn’t make a decisive pass, doesn’t kick a ball towards the goal”, he declared.
In another comment, Casagrande said there was “a group that supports Neymar, not the Brazilian team” and stated that fans were exposing themselves “pathetically” when defending the player’s call-up. He mocked possible reactions if the number 10 was left off Ancelotti’s list.
DCO’s publication received critical comments on social media. Users contested the party’s alignment with Neymar’s defense.
“The boy Ney is totally against the workers’ cause, he is extremely class-conscious… What multiverse do you live in?“, wrote one profile. Another declared: “Brazil has priorities, I followed the PCO hoping to act for the workers’ cause and not drool over billionaire eggs”.
There were also comments like “There are no longer revolutionary parties like they used to be” e “when we think that extreme idiocy is a gift from the right, the PCO comes and subverts logic”.
Neymar is the highest scorer in the history of the Brazilian team in official games, with 79 goals in 128 matches. He has not played for Brazil since October 2023, when he tore the anterior cruciate ligament and the meniscus in his left knee in the 2-0 defeat to Uruguay, in the qualifiers. In 2026, he played 15 games for Santos, scored 6 goals and provided 4 assists.

“The anti-Selection press spent months rehearsing Neymar’s funeral. They failed to agree with Carlo Ancelotti. Neymar is called up for the World Cup.
“Santos’ number 10, the greatest Brazilian player of the 21st century, will once again wear the Brazilian team’s shirt at the World Cup. This is terrible news for the enemies of Brazilian football, which turns any event surrounding Neymar into a pretext to attack not just a player, but everything that is still brilliant, popular and unpredictable in the country’s football.
“They wanted a Seleção without Neymar because they want a Seleção without personality. They wanted Brazil to play as if they were apologizing for having invented Pelé, Garrincha, Romário, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Neymar himself.
“But Brazil is going to the World Cup with Neymar.
“Suck it, Casagrande.
Suck it, press against the country.”
