Donald Trump’s presidential approval rating has hovered near its lowest level since he returned to the White House, bolstered by a drop in support among Republicans, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Tuesday.
The survey, which closed on Monday, shows that 35% of the country approved of Trump’s performance, a drop of one percentage point compared to the survey at the beginning of the month and slightly above the lowest point of his presidency (34%), seen last month. The Republican began his current term with a 47% approval rating.
Discontent is spreading within the Republican Party, with 21% of Republicans saying they now disapprove of the president’s performance, compared with 5% shortly after he took office in January 2025. For 79% of Republicans, Trump is doing a good job, up from 82% at the beginning of the month and 91% at the beginning of his term. Among Americans overall, just one in five approve of Trump’s handling of the cost of living.
The poll shows that 62% of Republicans approve of how Trump is handling the situation in Iran, while 28% disapprove. Democrats overwhelmingly disapprove, as do two-thirds of independents. Overall, just one in four respondents to the poll — and about half of Republicans — said military action in Iran was worth it.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll, which was conducted online, gathered responses from 1,271 adults across the country and had a margin of error of 3 percentage points for Americans overall and 5 points for Republicans.
Yesterday, the latest New York Times/Siena poll revealed that just 37 percent of Americans approve of Trump as president, a drop of four percentage points from the last poll in January and his lowest approval rating in any Times/Siena poll during his two terms.
