China resumes meat purchases from 3 Brazilian slaughterhouses

The suspension had been imposed in 2025 after Chinese authorities identified non-conformities in the units

China authorized the resumption of imports of beef produced by 3 Brazilian slaughterhouses that had suspended sales to the country since March 2025. The return of the units was by the (Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock) on Tuesday (May 19, 2026), after a bilateral meeting in Beijing between the minister (PSD) and the minister of the General Administration of Customs of China, Sun Meijun.

The rehabilitated plants are from JBS, in Mozarlândia (GO); da Frisa, in Nanuque (MG); and Bon-Mart Frigorifico, in Presidente Prudente (SP).

The suspension had been communicated to the Brazilian government by the (General Administration of Customs of China) in March 2025. According to published at the time by Mapa, the Chinese authorities carried out “video audits” in meatpacking plants and identified non-conformities in relation to the country’s import requirements.

At the time, the ministry reported that the companies had been notified and that they would adopt corrective measures to meet Beijing’s requirements.

Em published this Wednesday (May 20), Abiec (Brazilian Association of Meat Exporting Industries) stated that the decision of the Chinese authorities “represents an important achievement for the sector” and reinforces confidence in the Brazilian health system.

The entity attributed the reversal of the suspension to the work carried out by Mapa with the Chinese government in recent months.

The resumption of exports from these plants reinforces the solidity of the commercial relationship between Brazil and China and demonstrates the capacity for dialogue, articulation and technical response built by Brazil”, stated the association.
