Flamengo defeated Estudiantes 1-0 on Wednesday night (21), at Maracanã, in Rio de Janeiro, in the fifth round of the Libertadores group stage and is in the round of 16. The only goal of the match came in the 19th minute of the second half and was scored by Pedro.
In a play that defined the team, Fernando Muslera left the goal badly and wasted possession of the ball after a play by Bruno Henrique. The ball fell to the center forward, who hit low to beat the Uruguayan archer with a left-handed shot.
The first half was marked by a controversial move: referee Esteban Ostojich awarded Flamengo a penalty after Eric Meza made contact with Bruno Henrique, but VAR intervened and canceled the penalty, understanding that the infraction occurred outside the area.
With the triumph, Flamengo reached ten points in Group A and guaranteed classification for the next phase. Estudiantes has six points and is waiting for the clash to find out what the situation will be like in the bracket.
