The captain of Aston VillaJohn McGinn, made an unusual request: for Prince Prince William to foot the bill for the post-game celebration.
Youri Tielemans, Emiliano Buendía and Morgan Rogers scored the goals in Aston Villa’s 3-0 victory over SC Freiburg in the final on Wednesday. One of the club’s most illustrious fans, Prince William, watched the victory from the stands.
“He’s a very classy guy. He was in the dressing room before the game. He’s a big Villa fan, so he would never miss that game,” McGinn told TNT Sports.
“He’s a normal person. It’s great to have his support and I hope it stays that way. Maybe tonight he can have a few drinks with us and maybe use his credit card at the end of the night”, joked the midfielder.
William, 43, also spoke out on social media after Aston Villa’s title, which had not won a European trophy since 1982, when it won the Copa dos and the European Super Cup.
“Incredible night!! Huge congratulations to all the players, coaching staff, staff and everyone connected to the club. It’s 44 years since the last European victory!”, he wrote.
The prince also highlighted midfielder Boubacar Kamara, who was out due to injury.
“Special mention to Boubacar Kamara, who was injured, but is such an important piece for us and helped build the foundations of this success”, he said.
