Despite the ceasefire, Israel struck the Bikaa Valley in Lebanon, the attacks claimed 12 lives

A series of intense Israeli airstrikes on southern and eastern Lebanon also hit a village in the Bikaa Valley, where rescuers recovered at least 12 dead bodies from the rubble of buildings. The attacks come just three days before a key meeting of military delegations from both countries in Washington, which was supposed to seal a lasting peace.

At least 12 people were killed in Israeli attacks on a village in the Lebanese Bikaa Valley on Tuesday night. TASR informs about it with reference to the AP agency.

  • Twelve civilians were killed in nighttime Israeli attacks in the Lebanese Bikaa Valley.
  • Israeli strikes hit large areas of southern and eastern Lebanon at once.
  • The attacks came three days before scheduled Israeli-Lebanese military talks in Washington.

Rescuers said they had pulled 12 bodies from the rubble after a series of intense overnight strikes hit large areas of southern and eastern Lebanon.

Intensification of blows

Israel carried out the strikes shortly after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday ordered the armed forces to step up strikes in Lebanon to “eliminate” the militant Hezbollah movement. It happened three days before the planned meeting of the Israeli and Lebanese military delegation in Washington.

The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon has been officially in effect since April 16. In mid-May, after negotiations between the representatives of both countries in Washington, it was extended by another 45 days. Direct negotiations aim to ensure lasting peace between Lebanon and Israel.

Despite the cease-fire, Israel continues to attack and says it is targeting Hezbollah targets. A Shiite militant movement from the territory of Lebanon launches rockets and sends drones into the territory of the Jewish state and attacks Israeli targets in Lebanon.
