The São Paulo Court decided that Douglas Alves da Silva will go to the popular jury for running over and dragging Tainara Souza Santos for more than 1 km along Marginal Tietê, in the North zone of the capital of São Paulo, in November 2025. The first hearing of the case took place on the afternoon of this Monday (25), at 1 pm, at the Barra Funda Criminal Forum.
During the hearing, according to the TJSP (São Paulo Court of Justice), 12 witnesses were heard and the defendant was questioned. The parties presented their closing arguments orally and it was decided that Douglas will be put on trial before the Jury Court.
The Jury Trial takes place based on art. 2nd of Law 167/1938, which determines that the Sentencing Council is composed of seven jurors drawn from 21 listedwho will decide whether the defendant is guilty or innocent of the charges.
Jurors must be chosen from among the citizensin accordance with legislation. Jury service is mandatory for those over 25 years of age and up to 60 years of age.
Also according to the TJSP, the process is being processed under judicial secrecy, therefore, only the parties involved, appointed lawyers and witnesses listed in the case file will be able to follow the trial.
Remember Tainara’s case
Tainara Souza Santos, 31 years old, on November 29, 2025, and died on Christmas Eve, December 24, at Hospital das Clínicas, around 7 pm. The death was confirmed by the family’s lawyer, Wilson Zaska, and by the victim’s family on social media.

Douglas Alves da Silva, 26 years old, identified as the perpetrator of the crime, has been arrested since November 30th and is in the Provisional Detention Center II of Guarulhos (SP).
According to the SSP-SP (Public Security Secretariat of the State of São Paulo), Douglas intended to run over and kill the victim. Images from security cameras from the day of the incident show that the driver not only runs her over, but runs over the woman with the car and drags her along the street.
