Solar Eclipse 2026. When will we see it in Poland?
A solar eclipse is a phenomenon that occurs when the Earth, the Moon and the Sun align in a straight line. When the Moon is new and comes exactly between our planet and the Sun, it casts its shadow on the Earth’s surface. Thanks to such astronomical settings, we can see a unique spectacle with our own eyes. We could see the last partial eclipse on October 25, 2022. In turn, the last total solar eclipse visible in Poland took place on June 30, 1954, and the next one will take place only in 2135. However, during the upcoming holidays, Poles will be able to see an equally spectacular solar eclipse in the sky. It is true that it will be partial, but because it will obscure a significant part of this bright star, it is an extremely awaited event. A solar eclipse is scheduled to occur on August 12, 2026. It is expected to take place in the early evening. The exact times will depend on your location in Poland, but the peak of the eclipse is expected around 7-8 p.m. Polish time.
Where to see the total solar eclipse in 2026?
Of course, in some regions of the Earth it will be possible to watch a total solar eclipse. The best viewing conditions will be in western Iceland and northern and eastern Spain. In these places, the Moon will completely cover the Sun and there will be complete darkness for a few minutes. In Poland we will see a partial but deep eclipse. In the western part of the country, the Moon will cover over 80-90% of the solar disk, creating a narrow, red crescent in the sky leaning towards the horizon.
How to watch a solar eclipse? Safety rules
Of course, when watching a solar eclipse, we must not forget about safety rules. Looking directly at the sky can damage our eyesight. Regular sunglasses are insufficient and can lead to permanent vision damage or even blindness. Always use special ISO 12312-2 certified eclipse glasses or professional solar filters for telescopes or binoculars.
