A reality show like “Deadly Kilos Brazil” has the chance to reveal what the routine of people who cannot live in society and end up forgotten: the super obese. Portrayed in the program as patients who are looking to change their lives, they have to — in addition to fighting their own weight — deal with public stigmas.

HAS CNN Brazilwho participates in the attraction, said he was surprised by how these patients are portrayed.

“I had the pleasant surprise of seeing . They made people see Carlos [personagem da 1ª temporada] in addition to obesity, as a person. It was really beautiful to see, really moving,” he said.

Giovanni recalled that, as obesity is a multifactorial disease, it is important to remind viewers of “Kilos Mortais Brasil” that the patients’ condition is not just a reflection of their diet.

“Society has difficulty understanding that obesity is not a capital sin, it is not a matter of habit, and to solve it you don’t just have to ‘shut your mouth’. These comments are bad,” he said.

The doctor spoke to CNN Brazil about the importance of the work of bariatric scientists, endocrinologists, nutritionists, nutritionists and physical educators who care for super obese patients, understanding the context in which they are inserted and helping them change their lives.

“Without criminalizing, without judging, without placing blame, without mistreating, because, incredible as it may seem, many health professionals still treat obese patients with prejudice”, he pointed out.

According to the doctor, it is possible to observe that people who manage to overcome the adversities of the multifactorial disease have progress in different areas of life — such as professional, romantic and social.

“They develop a capacity for living and are able to get closer to their own potential”, he reflected.
