The president of the PNV, Aitor Esteban, stated this Thursday that “the legislature has come to an end” and that the “general interest” demands the calling of general elections this year. Esteban, in a brief meeting with the media, recalled that it is up to the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to dissolve the Cortes, and that a motion of censure is not on the PNV’s table. “We are not contemplating it,” he assured. For his part, the Minister of Culture and spokesman for Sumar, Ernest Urtasun, has asked his socialist partners in the Government to give further explanations about the new investigation by the National Court for corruption against the PSOE. “The new information is serious, and I really believe that the Socialist Party has to be aware that it has to give further explanations. The explanations that were given yesterday were absolutely insufficient,” Urtasun asked in an interview on TVE. Furthermore, the PP insists that they do not provide the numbers for a motion of censure and asks for an early election. “I think that Mr. Sánchez has an atrocious fear of the polls,” said popular spokesperson Borja Sémper on Telecinco.
