US Vice President JD Vance told reporters on Thursday that Washington is “not there yet” with Iran on a deal but that the parties are close, adding that the US is in a position where it can roll back Tehran’s nuclear program substantially.
Sources told Reuters that the US and Iran reached an agreement on Thursday to extend the ceasefire and lift restrictions on shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, pending approval from US President Donald Trump.
Vance said there are some points of friction in talks with Tehran regarding the enriched uranium stockpile and the enrichment issue.
“It’s difficult to say exactly when or if the president will sign the MOU. We’re going back and forth on some language,” Vance said.
“I can’t guarantee we’ll get there, but at the moment I’m pretty confident,” he said.
