Hell has broken loose in Europe: The climatologist spoke about the El Niño phenomenon, the Slovak heat is controlled by THIS!

Climatologist Jozef Pecho from the Regional Climatological Institute and GOSPACE LABS points out that there is no need to look for the well-known El Niño phenomenon behind the current heat. The European weather is dictated by completely different factors – from soil moisture to pressure altitudes over the Atlantic, which can reliably cover global influences, reports the portal.

At the same time, he explained in detail the development of current temperatures in Europe. “The El Niño phenomenon, which will very likely develop into its very intense phase during the second half of this yeardoes not yet have an immediate impact on the weather in any part of the world, and certainly not in Europe. El Niño is an important global climate phenomenon, but its impact on Europe is indirect, highly variable and most pronounced in winter,” he explained.

For European weather, the distribution of pressure formations over the Atlantic Ocean, the presence of pressure highs and lows over the continent itself, soil moisture or local geographical conditions are much more important. As a rule, these factors have a much stronger impact and can completely suppress or cover the influence of El Niño.

In addition, the manifestation of this phenomenon is not linear and varies from time to time. In Europe, in one case, it can bring above-average precipitation, and in other cases, drought. Therefore, El Niño cannot be perceived as a definite cause of specific weather fluctuations in our country, but rather as one of several global factors that co-create the overall character of the atmosphere.
